The Meat Worm Chronicles

Grass-Fed, Cage-Free, Legally Ambiguous.

Suspicious meat. Cooperative larvae. Emotionally complicated casseroles. Judgmental freezers. One exhausted butcher who knows much more than he is willing to explain. A deadpan illustrated descent into the terrible things people normalize once they are already in the freezer.

Conditionally Edible

Domestic horror with paperwork.

The Meat Worm Chronicles begins at the butcher counter and deteriorates responsibly from there. Grocery omens become household policy, holiday ritual, field taxonomy, attachment classification, and increasingly unhelpful freezer behavior.

“They’re still good.”

“How do you know?”

“They remembered us.”
Household observation
“Are the meat worms grass fed?”

“They are finished on grain.”

“Does that affect texture?”

“It affects their attitude.”

Known specimens

Five documented categories. Additional species remain pending confirmation, denied by management, or both.

Common Domestic Meat Worm

Carnis familiaris inconvenientis

Found in forgotten freezer bags, discounted cuts, holiday leftovers, and households where follow-up questions have stopped being productive.

WARNING: Do not wave. Do not name.

Ribworm

Costae vermis premium

Follows muscle fibers, tightens when disturbed, loosens when seasoned, and becomes noticeably warmer when complimented.

WARNING: It encourages hierarchy.

Freezer Threader

Filum glacialis domestica

Lives between things. Removes labels, relocates containers, and turns ordinary freezer organization into a question of jurisdiction.

WARNING: Never pull the threader.

Casserole Settler

Consolidator familialus

Not technically a worm. Assigns seats, levels surfaces, and understands family structure with greater accuracy than most relatives.

WARNING: Do not ask what's in it.

Basement Brine Worm

Vermis muria descendens

Old, patient, boundary-aware, and kept in jars by families who prefer eating to asking unnecessary questions.

WARNING: Do not bring upstairs.

Attachment: Type V

Reciprocal

The specimen is not the only party displaying attachment. Classification remains incomplete because the butcher took the notebook away.

NOTE: THAT ONE IS HOW IT STARTS.
Known Signs of Infestation

Labels changing. Food moving shelves. Punctuation patterns. Freezer knocking. Warmth in frozen bags. Casserole self-leveling. Children naming specimens despite repeated warnings.

“You read the whole thing?”

“Yes.”

The butcher checked the clock.

“Too late to return it now.”
